Who may be able to access the service?

People seeking asylum or those that have come to Australia as a refugee or humanitarian entrant usually require some vaccinations to be up to date with the National Immunisation Program Schedule. These vaccines are free and are available to you based on your age.

What does this service offer?

The ASRC Immunisation service provides catch-up vaccines to people with an asylum seeker or refugee background. Services that may be covered by the Immunisation Service are:

  • Catch up vaccinations as outlined in the National Immunisation Program
  • Vaccines required on the National Immunisation Program
  • ASRC Immunisation Nurse appointments
  • Blood tests to check vaccination status through St.Vincent’s Pathology
  • Education about the importance of immunisations

Costs that will NOT be covered by the Immunisation Service:

  • Transport costs to and from appointments
  • Vaccines not on the National Immunisation Program
  • Follow-up appointments with your GP
  • Pathology at services that are not St.Vincents

Services that we can assist with accessing through external sources or referrals:

  • Referrals to other vaccination services such as local council or other refugee health services
  • Supporting your GP to provide you with catch-up vaccinations
  • Provide you with documentation to show your doctor the vaccinations should be free

If you require an interpreter please state your preferred language and we will call you back with an interpreter.

Service hours may vary depending on staff capacity but these are the days and times we are open (excluding public holidays).
Please note, the service is paused during lunchtimes on the open days

What you need to provide:

  • Signed consent form including agreeing to ASRC’s Rights and Responsibilities agreement
  • Any immunisation history you have

  • Visa documents

  • Any medical history

  • Allergy History

  • Sign a ‘consent to release information’ form

What we use it for:

  • Consent to access services in line with ASRC relevant policies and procedures 
  • To work out what vaccinations you need

  • To show that you are a person seeking asylum or have a refugee background

  • To ensure you are given the correct vaccinations

  • To ensure you are given the correct vaccinations

  • To communicate with your doctors and other service providers about your health needs
