Jana Favero was appointed by our Board and CEO as the first Deputy CEO of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre in September 2024. As Deputy CEO, her role will further strengthen the impact, governance and sustainability of the ASRC.

Before being appointed Deputy CEO, Jana had been working at the ASRC for 14 years, most recently in the role of Head of Systemic Change. Jana has played a lead role in key national advocacy and legal reforms, including Kids Off Nauru, the end of TPVs and Medevac, and will continue to lead our Systemic Change work as our Deputy CEO.

Jana brings more than two decades of experience and expertise in positions of leadership and management with strong, varied national and global experience. Jana is a regular spokesperson in breaking news on human rights and refugee policy on and offshore, and leads ASRC’s political engagement as a trusted subject matter expert on asylum policy and is also a keynote speaker at conferences and events. Jana is also currently a Board Member for ACOSS. Jana will bring the whole breadth of her experience to the role of Deputy CEO at the ASRC.

Jana’s global social justice work in places such as Mongolia and India has sharpened her social justice values and entrenched in her work a basic belief that seeking asylum is a point in someone’s life – not a definition of identity. Jana is proudly Italian, and her favourite gelato flavour is nocciola (hazelnut).
