Safety. Hope. Family. Dreams. #Run4Refugees

After an epic few months of training and fundraising for Run 4 Refugees, more than 650 runners converged on the ‘G’ for the Melbourne Marathon on Sunday, 16 October 2016. Thanks to all runners and the community of compassion that surrounded them, the event raised a huge $236,356! These funds are vital to providing welcome and support to more than 3,000 people seeking asylum in the coming year. Without your support, the ASRC would not be able to respond to the growing need for our legal, food, health, casework, education and employment services. Thank you!

Wrap up of the day

The young and not so young, families, good friends, seasoned and not so seasoned runners were out in force as part of Team ASRC. Some also may have noticed our mascot for the day, Kermit the frog!

Run 4 Refugees is the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre’s biggest annual fundraising event held as part of the Melbourne Marathon, and participated by hundreds of supporters in local running events across the country. For the first time, we gathered in Fitzroy Gardens at the ASRC hosted, Chillout Zone where we had blankets, snacks and drinks for all our runners. Sweet refreshments were also provided by Mammoth Ice Cream who donated $1 for every ice cream sold to our runners.

But by far the most celebrated part of the day were the Run 4 Refugees t-shirts that each runner wore proudly.

And finally a huge thank you to all the volunteers and extra hands who helped on the day. For runners that would like to keep in touch, don’t forget to sign up to our Supporter Bulletin to hear more about how your fundraising has impacted the ASRC.
