Five more children evacuated off Nauru, seventeen remain
Five more children have been flown off Nauru over the weekend, as part of two families.
Seventeen children now remain offshore.
Jana Favero, Director of Campaigns and Advocacy at the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre said today that slowly but surely, the children were being evacuated from Nauru.
“It’s time to end this national disgrace of a policy once and for all.”
“We welcome the news that more children have been evacuated from Nauru. These kids are being transferred for medical treatment for critical health conditions caused by prolonged offshore detention on Nauru.”
“It’s time to evacuate kids off the island, as quickly as possible, so that they can recover and rebuild their lives.”
“It’s time to end this national disgrace of a policy once and for all, and to pass laws that would prevent children from being held in offshore detention ever again,” Jana said.
