For teachers

Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. - Nelson Mandela

We have developed a program aimed at Primary and Secondary students and provide a range of resources for students and teachers, including visiting schools to conduct information sessions or hosting visits at the ASRC.

Youth and Students Program

The ASRC’s Youth and Students Program provides a great insight into the work of the ASRC and situation facing people seeking asylum. The program is aimed at Primary and Secondary students and provides a range of resources for students and teachers, including visiting schools to conduct information sessions or hosting visits at the ASRC.

The aim of the program is to

  • Foster enlightened attitudes towards asylum seekers within primary and secondary schools.
  • Empower young people to advocate for the rights of those seeking asylum in Australia.
  • Support teachers with curriculum material for use within schools.

Upon request, schools are provided with support materials to introduce the topic to students within the context of History, Civics and Citizenship, Politics and English.  We can also provide resources to follow up with students after a presentation. A major project linked to the program is the annual Refugee Week School Competition in June.
