La Trobe University recognises the important contribution that people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds make to the Australian community.
As such, the La Trobe Humanitarian Scholarship is offered each year to three applicants who are asylum seekers or refugees holding a TPV, BV(E) or SHEV.
What is covered
The scholarships are for undergraduate studies and cover all tuition costs and include a AUD $7000 annual cost-of-living bursary for the normal duration of the degree.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Be residing in Australia
- Be deemed as a person seeking asylum or a refugee holding either a:
- Bridging Visa class E (BVE), or
- Temporary Protection Visa (TPV) or
- Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV).
- Be intending to enrol and commence studies as a full-time student in an undergraduate degree offered by La Trobe University
- Be able to demonstrate financial disadvantage, leadership potential and a strong commitment to studies.
Recipients of the scholarship shall be selected by the University based on their experience of disadvantage and their demonstrated leadership potential and commitment to study. Academic merit and English language proficiency may also be considered as part of the selection criteria.
