The Asylum Seeker Vocational Education Training (ASVET) program is a Victorian State Government funded initiative to support people seeking asylum and refugees to gain access to Government-subsidised VET courses until June 2021.
VET courses available under this new initiative includes VCE, Foundation Studies, Certificate 1 to Certificate IV courses and Diploma courses.
If you are a person seeking asylum and would like to access a subsidised VET course, you must first meet the eligibility requirements.
You must hold one of the following visas:
- Bridging Visa Class E (BVE)
- Safe Haven Enterprise Visa (SHEV)
- Temporary Protection Visa (TPV)
You must also:
- Hold study rights for all courses and work rights for some
- Have proficiency in English to participate effectively in the chosen course
- Live in Victoria
- Be able to cover course concession fees, material fees, student amenities fees and transport costs while studying
