On This Year’s International Day of Charity Give a Gift of Hope
Have you ever wondered how small acts of kindness can create a ripple of change on International Day of Charity?
When most people hear the word ‘charity’, the first thought that comes to mind is often money. But generosity takes many forms, and its impact can be just as powerful when shared through time, skills, or solidarity. At the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), we witness every day that kindness comes in countless ways.
It’s the volunteer who greets someone at reception, offering a warm welcome and helping them find their way on their first visit. It’s the local community group running a fundraiser, the team organising a food drive, or the behind-the-scenes helpers keeping our services running smoothly. Every action, big or small, sends the same message: we stand with you.
For refugees and people seeking asylum, many of whom have left everything behind, this support is vital. It helps them feel safe, seen, and part of a caring community. Charity, in its truest form, is about more than just financial contributions—it’s about stepping in wherever help is needed and making a real difference in someone’s life. Because of your generosity, thousands of people seeking asylum have found hope, safety, and a chance to rebuild their lives through the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre.
This Friday, 5th September, is International Day of Charity, and we’re celebrating the many different ways people give — whether it’s time, resources, skills, or advocacy. Every contribution, no matter the size, becomes part of a larger story of resilience and care. Together, these acts strengthen our community and help create a future where everyone has the chance to thrive.
As part of this, we’re also recognising Include a Charity Week, which encourages more Australians to consider leaving a charitable gift in their wills. The legacy we create today can transform lives for generations to come. If this resonates with you, including a gift in your will is a powerful way to future-proof our work and ensure people seeking asylum can live safely, sustainably, and independently.
The ASRC has partnered with Gathered Here to give our supporters the opportunity to write their will online, completely free of charge. It only takes approximately 10 minutes to complete, and there is no obligation to include the ASRC in your will.
Every act of kindness adds to a collective force for good. Together, we can create a world where hope is shared, dignity is protected, and no one is left behind.
