What started in 2001 as a small community-funded food bank led by a group of passionate TAFE students in Footscray became the ASRC, Australia’s largest independent human rights organisation providing support to people seeking asylum.
For two decades, the ASRC has stood as a force for change and a beacon of hope and decency.
Today we continue to champion the rights of people seeking asylum and mobilise a community of compassion to create lasting social and policy change.
Backed by our community, we remain committed to supporting and empowering those who came here in search of safety and freedom.
With you by our side, we won’t give up the fight against injustice for people seeking asylum.
Thank you for your support and help creating a more welcoming, just and compassionate Australia for people seeking asylum.
The ASRC was established as a community response and our work was and still is only made possible through the greatness of community.
It’s because of the community’s generosity, compassion and willingness to tackle the biggest challenges facing people seeking asylum that the ASRC has been able to support thousands of people in their journey to freedom and make real change possible.
Please join us in looking back at our biggest achievements and defining moments.
“My dream is that 50 years from now we have not built tougher borders or higher walls to stop human beings finding safety and freedom but a longer table with a seat for everyone. We have met the challenge of climate change to not create future generations of refugees. And a global community where refugees are welcomed with open arms and provided with protection, safety and opportunity, simply for being human. I hope we no longer follow the drumbeat of racism and fear that betrays our hearts and moral compass and awaken the best of us, an Us that sees and affirms what unites us, celebrates our beautiful differences and believes we are all equal, we all matter and we must all be free and safe to have a society worth being part of and proud of.”
