Celebrating the Heart of our Community this National Volunteer Week
For 25 years, volunteers have been the heartbeat of the ASRC.
Every day, across every part of our organisation, our volunteers show up with compassion, generosity and a shared belief that refugees and people seeking asylum deserve safety.
At the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC), volunteering is not one thing. It is the Foodbank volunteers sorting and packing with care so refugees and families seeking asylum can access essentials with dignity. It is people answering phones, assisting in our reception, helping run services, and stepping into roles across legal, health and community programs.
It’s skilled professionals and everyday people working side by side, each bringing something different, all contributing to the same purpose.
This is what makes the ASRC what it is, a community powered by people.
As we mark the beginning of National Volunteer Week, we wanted to hear directly from the people who make it happen.
We asked volunteers across different teams a simple question: What does it mean to be part of the ASRC?
Their answers are in the video below.
While every response is different, they all speak to the same thing: community, connection and making people feel like they belong.
To all our volunteers, past and present, we want to say thank you. Thank you for your time, your skills, your care and your commitment. Thank you for being part of the ASRC. We would not be here without you.
If you’d like to join our volunteer team, we’d love to hear from you. Explore current volunteer opportunities and apply via https://asrc.org.au/become-a-volunteer/
